DOE (Design of Experiment) Course

Opppssss.... D.O.E (Design of Experiment), bkn Department of Environmental okeh! Tidak tahu berapa RM yg fakulti bayar untuk kursus ini. Yang pentingnya, saya sbg salah seorang peserta kursus mengikuti kursus ini for freeeeeee... Hik3!

Okeh, sedikit maklumat yg sempat di'google' mengenai D.O.E seperti perenggan seterusnya...

"Design of experiment, or experimental design, is the design of all information-gathering exercises where variation is present, whether under the full control of the experimenter or not. (The latter situation is usually called an observational study). Often the experimenter is interested in the effect of some process or intervention (the "treatment") on some objects (the "experimental units"), which may be people. Maaf saya tidak paham kerna kursus kali ini adalah intermediate. Basic course dulu tidak hadir, jadi sy totally lost pada kursus ini. Ahhh tidak penting itu...

Apa yang membuatkan mereka berdua ini sungguh rajin untuk membersihkan lantai clean room ini?! Tiada kerja ka?! Hahahahha... Tapi jasa mereka harus dikenang okeh. Buat kerja amal mereka tengah malam2 buta ni.. Hik3! Siapakah mereka berdua?! Baju pun sama merah seolah2 uniform.. Hahahha.. Nama dan wajah terpaksa dirahsiakan atas sebab2 keselamatan.. Hik3!

Leakage ini sudah kerap kali berlaku akibat sinki yg  bocor dalam makmal ni. Bila ntah mereka akan betulkan... Mari kita intai kerja mereka berdua ini! :P








AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy)

Ianalytical chemistryatomic absorption spectroscopy is a technique for determining the concentration of a particular metal element in a sample. Atomic absorption spectroscopy can be used to analyze the concentration of over 62 different metals in a solution.

Although atomic absorption spectroscopy dates to the nineteenth century, the modern form was largely developed during the 1950s by a team of Australian chemists. They were led by Alan Walsh and worked at the CSIRO (Commonwealth Science and Industry Research Organization) Division of Chemical Physics in Melbourne, Australia.

PRINCIPLES

The technique makes use of absorption spectrometry to assess the concentration of an analyte in a sample. It relies therefore heavily on Beer-Lambert law.

In short, the electrons of the atoms in the atomizer can be promoted to higher orbitals for an instant by absorbing a set quantity of energy (i.e. light of a given wavelength). This amount of energy (or wavelength) is specific to a particular electron transition in a particular element, and in general, each wavelength corresponds to only one element. This gives the technique its elemental selectivity.

As the quantity of energy (the power) put into the flame is known, and the quantity remaining at the other side (at the detector) can be measured, it is possible, from Beer-Lambert law, to calculate how many of these transitions took place, and thus get a signal that is proportional to the concentration of the element being measured.

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is a method that combines the features of gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify different substances within a test sample. Applications of GC-MS include drug detection, fire investigation, environmental analysis, explosives investigation, and identification of unknown samples. GC/MS can also be used in airport security to detect substances in luggage or on human beings. Additionally, it can identify trace elements in materials that were previously thought to have disintegrated beyond identification.

The GC-MS has been widely heralded as a "gold standard" for forensic substance identification because it is used to perform a specific test. A specific test positively identifies the actual presence of a particular substance in a given sample. A non-specific test, however, merely indicates that a substance falls into a category of substances. Although a non-specific test could statistically suggest the identity of the substance, this could lead to false positive identification.

A fume hood or fume cupboard is a large piece of scientific equipment common to chemistry laboratories designed to limit a person's exposure to hazardous and/or unpleasant fumes. Fume hoods were originally manufactured from timber, but now epoxy coated mild steel is the main construction material. Two main types of unit exist, ducted and recirculating. With the ducted type, old asbestos vent pipe has been superseded on health grounds, typically with PVC or polypropylene. The principle is the same for all units; air is drawn in from the front of the cabinet by a fan, and either expelled outside the building or made safe through filtration and fed back into the room.

Tertiba-tiba teringin mengupload bunga ini kerna sekurang-kurangnya akan ada kenangan sebelum bunga2 ini dibuang... Jambangan2 bunga ini adalah hadiah buat saya semasa konvokesyen degree padaDisember 2007. Sejak itu juga la mereka bergantungan di sini....

Owh yg hijau itu, jambangan bunga pelastik itu adalah hadiah dari kakak saya.. Dan yg jambangan bunga hidup (yg sudah layu itu) warna pepel itu hadiah dr si jantung hati... Sayang kamu semua okeh!
